Base Metal Thickness: This is the thickness of the metal before being painted or otherwise coated.

| Girth |
Girth is the total width of a material from which something is made. For example, the Flat Top Ridge Capping below has a girth of 30 + 185 + 185 + 30mm = 430mm.

'linear metre'. This is a way that materials are measured where they are sold by the metre at whatever their standard width is. For example, Flat Top Ridge Capping is 430mm wide and is sold per linear metre.
Roof sheeting is sometimes quoted per square metre and sometimes per linear metre. We always quote per linear metre. Roof sheeting covers 762mm allowing for overlap so you can convert a 'per square metre' price to a 'per linear metre' price by multiplying it by 0.762. Convert the other way by dividing the 'per linear metre' price by 0.762.

This refers to guttering that has slots punched along the outer edge. The slots are designed to allow water to overflow from the gutter in the event of a heavy downpour and thus prevent damage to the guttering through excessive weight and more importantly flooding of the roof space due to water flowng back under the eaves.

| TCT |
Total Coated Thickness: This is the thickness of the metal after being painted or otherwise coated. The TCT will always be equal to or thicker than the Base Metal Thickness (BMT).
